Access Statement - Mendip View Hot Tub Lodges

1. Location

Mendip View Hot Tub Lodges are located at Wookey Hole, Wells, Somerset, BA5 1BB. Guests check in at the Wookey Hole Hotel Reception, situated at the top of the main car park. The lodges are positioned on a private, enclosed avenue with ten static caravans arranged in a single line, spaced approximately 5 metres apart.

 

2. Arrival and Parking

  • Check-in Time: From 4:00pm
  • Check-out Time: By 10:00am
  • General Access: To reach Mendip View Hot Tub Lodges by car includes a 200m gravel track up a gentle incline. Access to the lodges area is through an entrance gate, leading to a private avenue along which the lodges are situated.
  • Parking: Each lodge has a designated parking bay off the main avenue. The road surface throughout the site is level concrete, and parking bays are also on level ground. Access from the parking bay to each lodge involves crossing a short gravel section before reaching the steps up to the decking. Guests are asked to park only in marked bays and to keep pathways and access routes clear.
  • Drop-off Point: The parking bays are immediately in front of the lodges and include space for one car. Additional vehicles may also park outside their lodge to unload passengers and luggage before parking in the overflow parking area outside the entrance gate.

 

3. Pathways and Access

  • Surface Types:
    o Main avenue and parking areas: smooth concrete.
    o Approaches to individual lodges: gravel, followed by four UPVC steps up to the external decking gate.
    o Overflow parking area: grass, with some uneven ground.
  • Gradient: The ground across the Mendip View Hot Tub Lodges site is generally level. The gravel surface can be uneven and may be difficult for wheelchairs, pushchairs, or guests with reduced mobility.
  • Lighting: External lighting is present along the avenue and at each lodge to help with visibility after dark.

 

4. Lodge Accessibility

Please note that none of the lodges are wheelchair accessible. All accommodation can only be reached by a gravel path and a fixed set of four steps.

5. Access to Lodges

  • Each lodge is elevated approximately 60cm from ground level.
  • Access is via four external steps leading onto UPVC decking.
  • The decking is gated; the gate is 100cm wide.
  • No ramps or step-free routes are available.

6. Door Widths

  • Main entrance door: 71cm wide
  • Patio doors: 139cm wide in total
  • Internal doors: 53cm wide throughout
    (All measurements are approximate usable widths.)

7. Internal Layout

The lodges are standard static-caravan layouts with compact circulation space. Furniture placement allows typical manoeuvrability for able-bodied guests but may not be suitable for anyone requiring additional space or mobility aids.

8. Bedrooms

Each lodge contains three bedrooms:

  • One master bedroom (double bed in six lodges; king-size bed in four lodges)
  • Two twin bedrooms
    o In the Oak, Beech and Chestnut lodges, the single beds are camp-bed size (6ft x 2ft 3in).
    o The Ivy Lodge has standard single beds in both twin rooms.

 

9. Bathrooms

  • The Oak and Beech lodges contain one bathroom and one separate shower room.
  • The Chestnut and Ivy lodges contain two bathrooms, including one en-suite in the master bedroom.
  • All bath/shower rooms are compact and are not wheelchair suitable.
  • Bathrooms are fitted with standard domestic fixtures and do not include grab rails or adapted facilities.

 

10. Fire Safety and Emergency Information

Two fire points are located on the fence opposite the lodges:

  • One opposite Lodge 9
  • One opposite Lodge 2

Fire points include:

  • Large fire extinguishers
  • A manual rotary fire alarm bell
  • Emergency call points connected to the hotel reception

Each lodge contains:

  • A wall-mounted fire extinguisher
  • A fire blanket
  • Smoke alarms
  • Carbon monoxide alarms

A Fire Action Notice is displayed beside the entrance door in every unit, including a map of the site showing all fire points and the designated assembly point.

Windows:

  • Twin-room windows have child-safety restrictors (open to 4 inches).
  • Master bedroom window is unrestricted and acts as an additional emergency escape route.

 

11. Facilities

  • Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available both along the avenue and inside each lodge.
  • Assistance Dogs: Registered assistance dogs are welcome in all lodges and public areas.
  • Guest Facilities: Guests staying at Mendip View Hot Tub Lodges have access to the Wookey Hole Hotel facilities (including dining), as detailed in the welcome pack provided on arrival. Please see the Wookey Hole Hotel Access Statement for further information. 

 

12. Communication and Support

  • Emergency Contact: Hotel reception staff are available 24/7. In addition to telephone contact, two emergency call-out intercoms are positioned along the main avenue for urgent assistance.

14. Additional Notes

  • Noise Policy: Guests are asked to keep noise to a minimum, particularly when using their decking areas. Quiet hours operate from 11:00pm to 7:00am.
  • Smoking: Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the lodges.
  • BBQs and Fires: Portable barbecues, open fires, fireworks, and fire lanterns are not allowed anywhere on the site.

 

15. Other Considerations

While the lodges are suitable for most guests, they may not meet the needs of visitors with mobility impairments, wheelchair users, or guests requiring adapted bathrooms. We are continually reviewing accessibility provisions and will update the Access Statement should new features or adaptations be added in future.
